(458) EARLY ( ca. 1934-35 ) ALLGEMEINE-SS
OTHER RANKS' VISOR HAT WITH VET'S "BRING-BACK" CERTIFICATE & COOKIE TIN.
This EARLY ( ca. 1934-35 ) ALLGEMEINE-SS enlisted man's visor
hat ( photo ) was purchased from an Arizona veteran, IN the cookie tin which accompanies the hat ( photo ), and with the original veteran's authorization, or
so-called "bring-back" certificate ( photo ). The black wool top and the black wool-felt band
are piped in white wool-felt ( photo ). The hat is the 1934-35 style of construction, with a
medium-low front peak ( photo ), and paired, black-painted air vent grommets on each
side ( photo ). The metal skull, or death's head insignia is SNUGLY attached to the hat
band by two flat metal prongs ( photo ). The grinning skull insignia is the
early silver variety ( probably an "M1/52" ). The skull is missing most of its silver "frosting", and
is very heavily patinated ( photo ). The second-pattern SS metal eagle & swastika cap device
has approximately 50% of its original silver "frosting" ( photo ), and is attached to the front
peak with two flat metal prongs which do not penetrate the cap's inside lining. The
glossy black "Vulkanfiber" visor is tightly attached to the front of the cap ( photo ), and
its underside is rust-brown colored, with a cross-hatched pattern ( photo ). The SS style
black leather chinstrap has a center buckle ( photo ), and is attached, on each side, with
a black-painted metal side button ( photo ). The interior of the cap is lined in a SAFFRON-colored
cotton muslin ( photo ), with black-printed SS sigrunes in the center ( photo ) which would have
originally been beneath a diamond-shaped celluloid sweat shield, which is missing. There
is also some illegible black printing below the runic symbols. There appears to have
been a large rectangular cloth ( or oilcloth ) SS / RZM tag which was formerly sewn in near the
front of the lining ( photo of thread outline ). The 50 mm. wide, unmarked, TAN leather sweatband
has "pinhole" air vents in the brow area, and is moderately soiled in this area also. The
leather sweatband is still tightly attached all-around ( photo ), is NOT
ripped or torn, and grades in VERY GOOD condition overall. The cap's exterior grades in
VERY GOOD ++ condition overall, and there is NO mothing..

black-wool felt backing, and is neatly hand-sewn to the front peak of the hat ( photo ). The
other ranks' style black patent leather chinstrap is attached, on each side, with gold-washed

GEBIRGSJAEGER ( OFFICER'S ) BERGMUETZE.
This is
an "un-messed-with", somewhat "salty", RARE, ALL-ORIGINAL, Heer Gebirgsjaeger, or mountain
troops, OFFICER'S "Bergmuetze". The hat is constructed of light grey-green colored, OFFICER-QUALITY wool, and
piped in twisted ALUMINUM cord around the crown ( photo ). The "short" style wool-covered ( cardboard ) visor
is associated with the traditional mountain troops' "Bergmuetze" ( photo ), and is covered on its
verso with a greyish-beige colored canvas-like cloth ( photo ). The ear flaps are joined in
the front of the cap with two pebbled-ZINC buttons ( photo ). There are no "pull-down" straps
present on the either side. The "T"-shaped Heer insignia is the enlisted type "BeVo" ( photo ), which is
hand-sewn-on the front peak ( photo ). There are paired, ZINC, air-vent grommets on each side ( photo ). There
is a ZINC edelweiss hand-sewn to the left side of the cap ( photo ). The cap is lined in a brownish-grey
cotton ( photo ), which is ink-stamped with the maker's name, "Keller & Co.", the cap's size, "58", and "1942" ( photo ). There
is a 45 mm. wide, brown leather, full-sweatband, which is machine-stitched into the cap ( photo ). The leather sweatband
is in EXCELLENT condition, and is NOT ripped or torn. There is considerable surface mothing, or moth larvae "tracking" to
the wool, and a few actual, scattered, SMALL moth holes ( photo ). The canvas-covered verso of the visor is lightly
stained. This cap was actually minimally "worn" per se, and most of the cap's condition issues are due
to improper storage and neglect. The cap's exterior grades "Slightly used; soiled and well-aged, GOOD PLUS", while
the cap's interior grades a little better, at a solid "VERY GOOD"..

(433) RARE, THIRD
REICH "RLB" ( "REICHSLUFTSCHUTZBUND" ) OFFICER'S VISOR HAT.
This very scarce piece of
Third Reich headgear was worn by an OFFICER of the "Reichsluftschutzbund", or "RLB" ( National Air Raid Protection Service ), ca. 1938. The "Tellerform"-shape top
is constructed of grey wool Gabardine, piped with ALUMINUM wire bullion ( photo ). The black wool felt band is also piped in braided
ALUMINUM wire bullion ( photo ). The braided ALUMINUM chin cords ( photo ), are attached on each side with round, pebbled-aluminum
buttons ( photo ). The glossy, black "Vulkanfiber" visor ( photo ) has a beige-colored, "cross-hatched" underside ( photo ), and
is tightly sewn-on. The OFFICER-pattern, "RLB" eagle and swastika insignia is meticulously hand-embroidered in aluminum wire bullion, on
a grey wool felt backing ( photo ). The "winged" Reichskokarde insignia is also hand-embroidered in aluminum wire bullion, on a black
wool-felt backing, with an aluminum, metal rosette ( photo ). The 45 mm. wide, grey leather sweatband is in EXCELLENT condition, and
closed in the rear of the hat with a small, white silk bow ( photo ). There is only SLIGHT soiling to the brow area of the genuine grey
leather sweatband. The hat is lined with a light purple-grey faux-satin, with some minor perspiration stains ( photo ). The rhomboidal-shaped, CELLULOID

is some VERY SLIGHT surface mothing, or moth "tracking" on the top of the hat ( photo ), but the OVERALL condition still grades as "Used, EXCELLENT". Also, the
original steel cap spring is still in place, giving this RARE visor hat a tight "drumhead" top, and a very smart appearance!.

RARE, AUTHENTIC, BLACK HEER PANZER OFFICER'S OVERSEAS HAT ( "SCHIFFCHEN" ).
This Heer
Panzer OFFICER'S overseas hat is constructed of black wool with the "scalloped" front, characteristic of the "M38
Schiffchen" ( photo ). Both the "scalloped" front and the top are piped in ALUMINUM bullion cord ( photo ). This piping
was PERIOD-added to this otherwise other ranks' black Panzer overseas hat ( photo ). The grey "BeVo" eagle & swastika
insignia, and the "BeVo" Kokarde, are on a black backing ( photo ). There are bilateral, paired, black-painted ZINC air-vent
grommets ( photo ). The cap is lined in a brownish-grey cotton twill ( photo ), which is ink-stamped, "B II 41" within a
rectangle ( photo ), and also separately ink-stamped "1941", and size-stamped, "58". Presumably to give his cap
a "smarter" appearance, this particular Heer Panzer OFFICER also sewed the very top of his cap together, using a black-thread "basting" stitch, visible
in the interior lining of the crown ( photo ). The front scallop is still "tacked-down" in the very front, and on both sides ( photo ). There
is NO moth damage, and the overall condition of this very rare, ALL-ORIGINAL, specimen of this so-called "upgraded" M38 Heer Panzer

this cap was probably never "issued". There is some very slight, scattered, surface-mothing, or

(424) ORIGINAL, DELUXE, WHITE-TOP ( "SUMMER" ), NAZI
POLICE OFFICER'S VISOR HAT IN NEAR MINT CONDITION.
This Third
Reich civil POLICE ( Zivil Polizei ) OFFICER'S visor hat has a detachable top, made of a
sturdy, "waffle-pattern", WHITE cotton ( photo ), with a very pronounced HIGH FRONT
PEAK, or "Sattelform" shape ( photo ). The top is piped in white also ( photo ). The hat
band is made of dark-brown wool felt ( photo ), with GREEN wool piping ( photo ). The
visor is glossy, black "Vulkanfiber" ( photo ), with a green, crosshatched underside ( photo ). The
braided aluminum chin cords, are attached, on each side, with a pebbled aluminum
button ( photo ). The light TAN colored, genuine leather sweatband ( photo ) is seamed on
the cap's left side, and has multiple "pinhole" air vents in the brow area ( photo ). The
leather sweatband is still supple, and in excellent condition. The DELUXE, officer quality
lining is constructed of IVORY-COLORED, ribbed SILK ( photo ), with a diamond-shaped, unmarked, clear
CELLULOID sweatshield ( photo ). The ALUMINUM, police-style eagle and swastika insignia is
two-piece construction ( photo ), and is snugly attached, to the front of the brown band, by
two round metal prongs ( photo ). The aluminum Reichskokarde is tightly attached to the
mid-portion of the high peak ( photo ). There is no readily visible size marking, but the
hat is a fairly LARGE size ( I would "guesstimate" at least "58" ). There are remnants of
the original, manila-colored tissue paper "stuffing" still present inside the white top, leading
me to believe that this DELUXE, private maker hat was never "sold". There is some minor
soiling of the removable white top ( photo ), but the overall condition would grade
as "Unused, unworn; NEAR MINT!.

KRIEGSMARINE LINE OFFICER'S WHITE TROPICAL HELMET WITH GOLD METAL EAGLE & SWASTIKA.
This WW II German KRIEGSMARINE sun helmet, or pith helmet, is the "Line"
OFFICER'S style, covered in a WHITE linen-like material ( photo ), and trimmed in WHITE leather ( photo ).
This rare OFFICER'S version of the Kriegsmarine tropical helmet has a large, "fire-gilded" metal eagle
& swastika, affixed to the front of the helmet ( photo ). This large metal insignia is attached to the
helmet by short prongs, and two, UNIQUE, round, white-painted metal discs, or backplates, which can be
seen inside the helmet's green muslin lining ( photo ). The top of this CORK tropical helmet is covered
in six, pie-wedge-shaped, panels of WHITE cloth( photo ). The helmet's large visor, and skirt, is
covered in the same WHITE, linen-like material, and trimmed in WHITE leather ( photo ). The very top
of the helmet has a ventilation opening, with a screw-on, cloth covered "cap" ( photo ). The brass ventilation
cupola, visible inside the pith helmet's dome, is die-stamped, "HELMFABRIK ROBERT LUBSTEIN BERLIN" & "D.R.G.M.". ( photo ).The interior
of the dome is lined in a GREEN cotton twill ( photo ), as is the underside of the visor and skirt
( photo ). The 47 mm. wide, light tan, SOFT calfskin-leather sweatband has an embossed, stylized
helmeted-soldier logo, identifying the "EREL" firm as the maker ( photo ). The inside of the still-supple,
tan leather sweatband is ink-stamped with the year of manufacture, "1941", and the helmet's size, "61" ( photo ). The green-colored rayon lining is also ink-stamped with the size of the helmet, "61" ( photo ).
The two-part leather
chinstrap is present on each side, but is unfortunately broken ( photo ). The entire ( cork ) dome of
the helmet is very "soft", probably due to someone accidentally sitting on it, or, perhaps, by being
"crushed" in a G.I.'s duffel bag. The white top is moderately soiled ( photo ), and the white leather
trim is cracked, and even missing in a few spots ( photo ). However, in spite of the damage, this RARE,
Kriegsmarine Line Officer's tropical helmet is still in very collectible condition, and displays
extremely well. The OVERALL condition grades FAIR ++, to GOOD.

GREY TOP, THIRD REICH DIPLOMATIC, OR GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL'S, VISOR HAT, WITH PHOTOS OF THE BRITISH
VETERAN, WHO "LIBERATED" IT IN BRUSSELS, IN 1945, WEARING THE ACTUAL HAT!
This
( British ) "vet-bring-back", Nazi Diplomatic, or Government Official's visor hat has a DOVE GREY,
brushed wool top, black wool band, hand-embroidered aluminum wire bullion insignia and chincord
( photo ), and is piped in GOLD wire bullion, which has tarnished with age to a pleasing "bronze"
shade ( photo ). The hat has a very pronounced "sattelform" shape ( photo ), with a very smart, HIGH
peak ( photo ). The ORIGINAL wire "cap ring", or wire "stretcher", is still present in the top of the
hat, thereby preserving the original "sattelform" shape, and "drumhead-look" to the top of the hat.
"Liberated" in 1945, in Brussels, Belgium, by the British soldier in the related photographs; this
VERY RARE, Third Reich visor hat would have been worn by a mid-level Nazi Government Official, or
diplomat, serving in a German-occupied country ( e.g. Belgium ), or territory; as indicated by the
GOLD bullion piping, and SILVER ( actually ALUMINUM ) bullion insignia ( photo ). The front of the
peak has a beautifully hand-embroidered, aluminum bullion, MASSIVE, diplomatic-style eagle and
swastika, on a green wool felt backing ( photo ). This insignia is tightly, PERIOD-hand-sewn to the
peak, and the stitching is visible on the inside of the off-white "satin" lining ( photo ). The black
wool hatband has the "winged", diplomatic style Reichskokarde insignia; hand-embroidered in aluminum
wire bullion, on a black wool felt backing ( photo ). The braided aluminum bullion chincord is attached
to the hat, on each side, with a "pebbled" aluminum button ( photo ). The hat is lined in two shades of
( faux ) "satin"; the inside of the hat's sides being an "off-white" color, while the inside of the top
of the hat is lined in a light grey "satin" ( photo ). The diamond-shaped, clear CELLULOID sweat shield,
is machine sewn-in, and unmarked ( photo ). There is a moderate amount of ( old, and dormant ) mildew,
or "foxing", present in the satin" lining ( photo ), but there are NO rips or tears, and the OVERALL
CONDITION of the lining still grades as "lightly-soiled", VERY GOOD ++. The 40 mm. wide, GREY,
genuine-calfskin leather sweatband is in EXCELLENT condition. The brow area of the high
quality leather sweatband has multiple "pinhole" vents, and evidence of formally having a "spongey",
ORANGE forehead cushion ( photo ). The visor is made of glossy, black "Vulkanfiber" ( photo ), and has
a GREY colored verso, with a "crosshatching" pattern ( photo ). The overall condition of this RARE,
UNQUESTIONABLY AUTHENTIC, and "documented", ( British ) soldier's war souvenir is VERY GOOD ++.
N.B. This British soldier's complete photo album, including the actual photos reproduced below, which
show the British GI "mugging for the camera", along with a FABULOUS, multiple item, "named", COMPLETE,
BLUE NAZI DIPLOMATIC OFFICIAL'S uniform, "liberated" along with the above visor hat; is available on
OAKLEAF MILITARIA'S great website: http://www.oakleafmilitaria.com/uniforms.htm.
EXTREMELY RARE, AND VERY
IMPRESSIVE, THIRD REICH "GREY TOP" DIPLOMATIC, OR GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL"S VISOR HAT; WITH AMAZING,

(325) VERY RARE, PRUSSIAN 7TH GRENADIER
REGIMENT [ GREN.-REGT. KONIG WILHELM I. ( 2. WESTPR. ) Nr. 7 V ] OFFICER'S PICKELHAUBE IN ABSOLUTELY STUNNING CONDITION.
This black
patent leather Prussian line officer's pickelhaube has the ULTRA-RARE helmet plate of the 7th Prussian Grenadier
Regiment. This FINELY-DETAILED, and BEAUTIFULLY "fire-guilded" helmet plate ( photo ) has
the "Grenadier Eagle of Guard", without the "Garde Star", but with an added "scroll", inscribed with the birthdate of Kaiser
Wilhelm I,"22 Marz 1797" ( photo ). This "new" Grenadier Eagle, with its added ribbon, or "scroll", was awarded to the regiment
on the 100th anniversary ( 1897 ) of the birth of Wilhelm I. Prior to this date in 1897, the 7th Grenadier Regiment helmet plate was the grenadier style eagle with
the "FWR" cypher, and, of course, no "scroll". Also, other modifications were made to make the 100th anniversary 7th Grenadier officer's helmet unique. An additional
distinction of this VERY RARE pickelhaube is to be found in the special "bosses" used to attach the officer's brass scale chinstrap to the
helmet skull. The new "bosses" are of a special design incorporating the the 7th Grenadier Regiment emblem, consisting of the crowned
cypher of Kaiser Wilhelm I, an intertwined "WR" with a Roman numeral I at the bottom ( photo ). These special rosettes, or "bosses",
are actually quite RARE in their own right, and are NOT found on ALL "100th anniversary" 7th Grenadier Regiment spike helmets. In fact, period
sales catalogues of military effects manufacturers and purveyers list these special rosettes as an "extra cost" option. This fabulous pickelhaube has the classic officer's
style twist-off, tall spike with four vents ( photo ), upon a round base with quadrilateral stars ( photo ).
The interior has the typical officer style, scalloped-edge, wide leather sweatband ( photo ), and eggshell colored, ribbed
moire silk "clamshell" lining ( photo ). The off-white moire silk lining has
a gold-embossed crown, over the letter "C", identifying this 7th Prussian Grenadier Officer as a baron ( photo ).
The moire silk lining is well-worn in spots and frayed, but intact ( photo ). The SHAPE and FORM of the
helmet "skull", or body, is amazingly well-preserved and the black patent leather is in EXCELLENT condition,
with its original glossy appearance ( photo ), and only minimal surface age-crazing. The OVERALL
condition of this BEAUTIFUL, and RARE, Prussian 7th Grenadier ( aristocat or noble ) Officer's pickelhaube is EXCELLENT PLUS!

(326) RARE, "WARTIME"
( dated 1918 ) PRUSSIAN UHLAN ENLISTED MAN'S "ERSATZ" TSCHAPKA IN FANTASTIC, NEAR-MINT, ALMOST "UNUSED" CONDITION!
This Prussian
Uhlan lancer's tschapka is the EXTREMELY RARE, late-WW I, "ersatz" type construction, made of a fibre material and
covered in a grey-green ( "feldgrau" ) colored, brushed-felt ( photo ). The ORIGINAL wartime, white metal, or pewter,
Prussian line helmet plate is firmly attached to the helmet with the original single, wide, split, steel brad, and appears
to have never been off the helmet! ( photo ). There are still traces of the original flat "feldgrau" paint present in the
recesses of the helmet plate. The ORIGINAL, tan leather chinstrap has two front buckles, and is in FINE condition!
The right side chinstrap lug has an ORIGINAL, red, white, and black-painted, metal "Reichskokarde" ( photo ). As is correct for a
PRUSSIAN Uhlan helmet, there is no left side metal kokarde ( photo ). The inside of the visor is clearly ink-stamped "B.A.,1918"
( "BekleidungsAmt I, 1918", or "Uniform Depot, 1918" ) ( photo ). The rabatt is firmly attached to the tschapka's crown ( photo ),
and has the ORIGINAL, black and white felt covered, Prussian "feldzeichen" ( photo ). The rabatt is secured on the inside with four,
steel, domed rivets ( photo ). The ORIGINAL, black-leather sweatband has nine tongues, and is in TOP, original condition.
The FORM and SHAPE of this NEARLY-MINT, Prussian Lancer's Tschapka is nearly perfect, and almost
never observed in this relatively "flimsy", ERSATZ style, late-war helmet. There is NO mothing whatsoever, and the OVERALL
condition grades EXCELLENT-PLUS, to "UNUSED, NEARLY MINT".
VERY RARE, "WARTIME" ( 1918-DATED ), PRUSSIAN UHLAN "ERSATZ" TSCHAPKA IN TOP,
ALL-ORIGINAL, ALMOST "UNUSED", CONDITION.

(22) VERY RARE, BLACK-PIPED ( FOR SS-PIONIER- TRUPPEN ) WAFFEN-SS OFFICER'S
"FIELD SERVICE" VISOR.
This RARE, Waffen-SS officer's, "field-service"-
grade visor hat is constructed of a medium-quality,
somewhat "coarse", gray-green wool, and piped in
BLACK wool-felt "waffenfarbe" ( indicating an SS
"combat engineer", or "SS-PIONIER OFFIZIER" )
( photo ). The hat band is covered in a fine, BLACK
VELVET, which is tightly-applied ( photo ), and has
a "high-set", ORIGINAL, "painted"-aluminum type, "grinning-skull", cap
device, tightly affixed by two, flat prongs ( photo ). ( There are NO
"extra" holes ) The "sattelform" shape, high front peak has an
ORIGINAL, "painted"-aluminum, Waffen-SS style, eagle & swastika cap
device ( photo ), attached by two flat prongs, which can be seen on the
inside of the lining ( photo ). ( By lifting-up the bottom of the
eagle, one can see a distinctly darker green wool, and "embossing" of
the wool, from a metal, "SS- DESIGN", eagle & swastika insignia having
been applied there a very long time ) The "subdued"-
ALUMINUM-braided chincord is attached, on each
side, with a "pebbled"-aluminum button ( photo ).
The black, "Vulkanfiber" visor displays significant wear to the brim (
photo ), but is TIGHTLY-stitched-
on, and has a beige, "cross-hatched" underside, which also shows much,
NATURAL, "on-and-off" type wear ( photo ). The hat is lined in a BRONZE-
colored "satin", which is embossed with the maker's
name ( "Robert Lubstein, Berlin, NW 21" ), beneath
a rhomboidal-shaped, CELLULOID, sweatshield
( photo ). The "satin" beneath the sweatshield is
clean and bright, while the "unprotected" areas of the "satin" lining
are ( moderately ) soiled ( photo ).
Also, the "protected" satin, underneath the leather
sweatband, is distinctly cleaner, and much "brighter"
than the soiled, "exposed" areas of the satin lining.
The 45 mm. wide, beige-leather sweatband has the
"pinhole" type ventilation, in the brow area, and is also moderately
soiled, but is not ripped, or torn. There a FEW, TINY, "scattered" moth nips ( The largest is
"pin-head" size ) , and some VERY SUPERFICIAL, moth larvae "tracking",
on the wool
crown, but the OVERALL condition of this very rare,
BLACK-PIPED, SS-Engineer-officer's visor hat is still a solid VERY GOOD,
to very good PLUS.
N.B.: All "COLORED-piped", Waffen-SS visor hats, whether "officer" or
"NCO", are EXCEEDINGLY-
RARE, due to the relatively short period of their
"officially-approved" issue, and "wear" ( less than
one year ), and as a consequence, are immediately
viewed with a great degree of "skepticism", and outright suspicion.
However, notwithstanding that fact, and despite the "official" switch to
only WHITE piping, in 1940, many SS men, who were especially proud of
their SS branch-of-service "waffenfarbe", continued to wear their
"color-piped" hats right up the end of the war! Therefore, REAL, PERIOD,
examples were made, and worn, and do indeed exist in the world. I firmly
believe that THIS hat is one such VERY RARE, and ORIGINAL, example!
30 day inspection period.
RARE, ORIGINAL, "BLACK-PIPED", WAFFEN-SS
"PIONEER"-OFFICER'S VISOR HAT.
